Thabani Moyo
Abraham "Thabani" Moyo is a seasoned software engineer, enterprise IT strategist, and the CEO of Nerdma Systems — a South African technology company managing client engagements and strategic partnerships across the Financial Services and Telecommunications industries. With over a decade of hands-on engineering and executive leadership experience, Thabani brings the technical backbone and commercial acumen that powers the Vuka Motho platform.
As Co-Founder of Vuka Motho, Thabani applies his deep expertise in Java microservices, cloud architecture, and enterprise systems to build scalable, low-bandwidth digital health infrastructure purpose-built for African conditions. His philosophy is simple: the most powerful applications of technology are those that solve real human problems — and Africa's mental health crisis demands exactly that kind of ambition.
A champion of "Tech with Purpose", Thabani's career spans senior engineering roles at Standard Bank and FNB, enterprise consulting at Deloitte, a BSc Honours in Computer Science (2006), and an MBA from Henley Business School. Together with Dr. Neo Nakedi, he is building Vuka Motho as the continent's leading digital mental health ecosystem — starting with the Zimbabwe pilot through the Jafuta Foundation.

Zimbabwe: Where It
Begins for Africa
In partnership with the Jafuta Foundation, we are piloting Africa's most ambitious community mental health initiative in the heart of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
The Jafuta Foundation
The Jafuta Foundation is a trusted community development organisation with deep roots in the Victoria Falls region of Zimbabwe. Through this partnership, Vuka Motho gains authentic access to rural and peri-urban communities — allowing us to co-design, test, and refine our mental health tools in the real-world conditions they are built for.
This pilot is the first proof-of-concept for the Vuka Motho model on African soil: digital mental health access, autism awareness, neurodiversity education, and nature-based healing — all delivered through a community-trusted intermediary. What we learn here shapes our continent-wide expansion strategy.
On the Ground in Zimbabwe
Our visit confirmed both the urgent need and extraordinary opportunity. The landscape, community, and Jafuta Foundation team make this the ideal launchpad.

Community-First Design
Co-creating solutions with local leaders and the Jafuta Foundation to ensure cultural relevance and adoption.
Low-Bandwidth Tech
All digital tools optimised for low-connectivity rural environments — because infrastructure should never be a barrier.
Nature as Medicine
Victoria Falls' extraordinary ecosystem forms the backdrop for our first therapeutic travel and reset experiences.
Measurable Outcomes
Rigorous data collection from day one — building the evidence base that will drive donor funding and scale across Africa.
This is proof of concept.
Tomorrow, it is a continent.
Zimbabwe is our starting point — not our ceiling. Partner with us to bring the Vuka Motho model to your country, community, or organisation.

Endorsed by Gauteng Province
The Neurodiversity Conference 2026 is held under the auspices of the Gauteng Provincial Government and the Republic of South Africa — reflecting the highest level of institutional recognition for the importance of neurodiversity inclusion. Vuka Motho's participation signals our positioning as a national-level thought leader.
Understanding Our Leadership Position
"Contextualising Neurodiversity" means more than translation — it means understanding how autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, and other neurological variations manifest, are perceived, and can be supported within specific African cultural, economic, and community frameworks. Vuka Motho is pioneering this work.
Neurodiversity is not a Western concept — it is a human reality present in every community. But the tools, language, and support systems have largely been designed for Western contexts. A Pan-African approach ensures that every African community — from urban Johannesburg to rural Zimbabwe — has access to neurodiversity understanding and support that actually works for them.
Our AI-powered screening tools are designed to work in low-resource, low-bandwidth environments. We are building the first generation of autism and neurodiversity assessment tools that are adapted for African linguistic, cultural, and clinical contexts — making early identification and support possible for communities that currently have zero access.
We welcome collaboration from healthcare organisations, schools, government health departments, NGOs, and technology partners. Whether you want to co-fund a neurodiversity pilot, integrate our screening tools into your health system, or collaborate on research — contact us via the Partner With Us tab.
VukaSphere: Mental Health for the Many
A dedicated product stream under the Vuka Motho umbrella — designed to serve underserved communities through donor-funded mental health and general upliftment programmes.
VukaSphere
VukaSphere is a purpose-built, donor-funded initiative targeting the mental health and general wellbeing needs of Africa's most underserved populations. It operates as a distinct product stream — with its own domain and delivery model — under the broader Vuka Motho ecosystem.
- Donor and NGO-funded mental health programme delivery
- Subsidised access to autism screening and neurodiversity tools
- Community health worker enablement programmes
- School-based mental health awareness and early intervention
- Integration with government and international health partner pipelines
- Impact reporting and evidence generation for continued funding
VukaSphere has its own dedicated domain and product roadmap. It is a sibling product to the core Vuka Motho platform — amplifying reach without diluting the premium quality of our flagship services at www.vukamotho.africa.
Common Questions
VukaSphere is a donor-funded, subsidised service stream designed to reach zero-income and low-income communities that cannot access paid services. The main Vuka Motho platform serves paying patients, healthcare organisations, and institutional clients. VukaSphere extends the mission to those most in need, funded by sponsors, donors, and development partners.
- Children and youth in under-resourced schools
- Rural communities with limited healthcare access
- Families of neurodiverse individuals without diagnostic support
- Community health workers needing digital upskilling tools
- Survivors of trauma with no access to professional support
We welcome corporate CSI funding, international development grants, NGO partnerships, and individual major donors. Sponsors can fund specific programmes (e.g., school-based autism awareness), community deployments (e.g., a specific village or district), or provide platform infrastructure support. All funding is impact-measured and reported. Contact us via the Partner With Us section.
